Wine Bars & Wine Restaurants
Sit-down experiences built around wine — from intimate neighborhood bars to piano bars, espresso-to-wine hybrids, and romantic date-night destinations.
The most celebrated wine bar in Huntsville — and one of only a handful in Alabama to earn Michelin recognition. The Church Street family is a Huntsville institution, built around a simple obsession: exceptional wine, genuine hospitality, and no pretension. The downtown flagship at 501 Church Street NW is the crown jewel: a full wine bar, a bottle retail shop, live piano bar nights, and a food menu with expertly paired tapas and charcuterie. Wine and beer tastings run daily. Each year they host Pinot Camp, welcoming Oregon winemakers to Huntsville to pour their Pinot Noir directly for guests. A second location at Village of Providence adds convenience on the north side. Wine club and supper club memberships available.
Huntsville's most beloved date-night wine bar — a European-inspired brasserie combining a full restaurant, an extensive wine list, and a cozy bohemian atmosphere into one consistently excellent experience. Two downtown locations: the main restaurant at 200 West Side Square with Big Spring Park views and a patio, and a wine bar and cheese shop at 103 North Side Square. The seasonal menu is ingredient-driven: charcuterie boards, scallops, duck, risotto, and a cheesecake guests rave about for weeks. Staff are genuinely wine-knowledgeable. Reservations recommended; the bar is walk-in.
The most inventive concept in Huntsville's wine scene: a full espresso bar that transitions into a premium wine bar as the day progresses — all inside Stovehouse. "Where Day Begins and Evening Unwinds" is not just marketing; it's the actual experience. Specialty coffee in the morning, hard-to-find wines by the glass at night, and regular guided premium tasting events ($35) covering France, Argentina, Fortified Wines, Sake, and more. Signature "Stovehouse Horsejackery" hand-selected Maker's Mark bourbon available on-site. Wine club membership gives members 25% off events. An inclusive employment model — staff includes people with intellectual and physical disabilities, and it is a genuinely warm, community-centered spot.
A moody, sophisticated South Huntsville wine studio with near-universal five-star reviews. Owners Beth and Keith Roberts focus every detail on the relaxed experience: eight curated wines rotating weekly (bubbles to reds), a beautiful dog-friendly patio, small bites, and bottles from sources you won't find at any grocery store. The "Wine Circle" community program brings regulars together monthly. A song lyric is hidden at the top of each week's menu — a small touch that regulars look forward to. If you're unsure what to try, order the flight. $9–$14 per glass, with a higher-end weekly feature.
Half intimate wine bar, half retail shop — a family-owned gem in University Place Shopping Center. Owners Russ and Krystal have built a genuine community around natural and low-intervention wine from small independent producers. The bar features 125+ selections by the bottle and 100+ half-bottles, with a particular strength in naturally crafted and organic wines that simply aren't available elsewhere in North Alabama. No TVs, just wine and good conversation. Special events include oyster nights, wine studies evenings, guest speakers, and themed challenges. Excellent scratch-made gourmet pizza on the food menu.
The most scenically situated wine experience in downtown Huntsville — on the ground floor of the Huntsville Museum of Art, overlooking Big Spring International Park. "Bread and wine" in Italian, and it earns the name with a curated wine list designed to pair with creative pizza. A natural stop before or after a walk through the park or a performance at the Von Braun Center. The patio is one of downtown's finest on a clear evening.
The newest wine bar to land in Madison — opened June 25, 2025 in Downtown Madison. The Vine & Oak offers handcrafted cocktails, relaxed lounge seating, and a wine and bourbon retail section stocked with bottles from around the world. Madison's first dedicated wine bar, and it's quickly become the local go-to for a relaxed evening glass without a drive into Huntsville. Browse bottles to take home while you sip a flight of something new.
The splashiest wine opening of 2026 — Cooper's Hawk opened February 9, 2026 at Clift Farm as the brand's first Alabama location and was nearly fully booked for Valentine's Day on its opening weekend. A Napa Valley tasting room experience in Madison: award-winning handcrafted wines, a full contemporary American menu, and a retail artisan wine market. The wine club has over 750,000 members worldwide. Capacity for nearly 500 guests. Wine O'Clock Happy Hour runs Monday–Friday 3–5:30 PM. Brunch and Bubbles weekends 10 AM–2 PM. Reservations strongly recommended for dining.

Bottle Shops & Wine Retail
Local specialty shops where you buy great bottles to take home — many also offer on-site tasting bars, classes, and community events.
Huntsville's original wine shop — opened in 2002 by Jim Harris and Rhonda Mitchell, passed through generations of stewardship, and now lovingly owned by Brandi and Jason Edmonds. A neighborhood institution with over 500 unique labels from around the world at every price point. The Cellar Club walks you through new regions and styles each month; complimentary flavor profile tastings available by appointment. Wednesday tastings are intimate and exclusive. Friday tastings include live music from local artists at 6:30 PM — just $20 for 10 wines and entertainment, with one of the most charming covered porches in all of Huntsville. "We want to dispel the myth that you only belong in a wine shop if you drink high-end French wines." Wine and craft beer, gift baskets, and event space available.
The retail bottle side of one of Huntsville's finest wine bars (see also above in the Wine Bars section). As a bottle shop, Research Park specializes in naturally crafted wines from small independent producers — low-intervention winemaking, organic and sustainable labels, and selections simply not available in any grocery or big-box store in North Alabama. 125+ bottle selections, 100+ half bottles. Monthly wine club connects you to new arrivals and the owners' encyclopedic knowledge.
Both ChurchStreet locations (Downtown and Village of Providence) operate as full bottle shops alongside their wine bar service. The Providence location functions more prominently as a retail-focused destination with daily tastings and a carefully curated selection built by a team recognized as Retailer of the Year. For stocking a cellar or finding a great gift bottle in Huntsville, this is where serious wine buyers go first.
Madison's most versatile wine and spirits destination: part specialty package store with a curated selection of wine, craft beer, and fine spirits — and part lively bar with a spacious heated patio, rotating food trucks, live music, and a die-hard weekly trivia night on Wednesdays at 7 PM. Half-price wine by the glass on Tuesdays starting at 5 PM, with live music at 6 PM. 12 rotating draft lines. Bottle delivery available. 21+ only, strictly enforced.
A well-regarded Madison bottle shop covering wine, craft beer, and spirits in one curated stop. Consistently recommended by locals for specialty selections not found at big-box stores. Staff are knowledgeable and the selection favors independent producers and unique labels. A solid neighborhood resource for building a home cellar or hunting a specific bottle.
The top-ranked wine and spirits retailer on Yelp's Madison area list — a specialty package store with a reputation for a thoughtful wine section and staff willing to help you find the right bottle at the right price. Regularly praised by Madison locals as the area's most convenient specialty spirits stop that doesn't sacrifice selection for convenience.
Local Winery
Rocket City's own estate winery — growing and producing wine from Alabama soil just north of the city.
One of the most compelling stories in Huntsville's food and drink scene: a micro-farm winery on the northern edge of the Rocket City, built on a family tradition of Italian winemaking that crossed the Atlantic from Piemonte to Alabama. Owners Tom Fitzgerald and Bev Massa met at an Italian Festival stomping grapes. Tom brings 45+ years of industry experience and years of research into disease-resistant hybrid grape varieties suited to North Alabama's climate — research that now advises growers in Florida and Tennessee. All 100% estate-grown: dry whites like Dorรฉ and Traminett, dry reds like the Crimson Cabernet and the Sasso Rosso ("red stone" — a tribute to Redstone Arsenal and North Alabama's red clay), fruit wines, and a standout fig wine from their own trees. The rare "Professore Zehnder" blend is made from a grape developed by a Sheffield, Alabama native — La Famiglia may be the only winery in the world producing it. Open weekends only; Fridays reserved for private events. Adopt-a-Vine program and live music picnic afternoons available.
Expand Your Vineyard Horizons
La Famiglia is the nearest winery to Huntsville, but Alabama's wine trail is growing. Day trip options include Morgan Creek Vineyards (Harpersville), Wills Creek Vineyards (Attalla), and Ozan Vineyard & Winery (Calera). The North Alabama Agri-Tourism trail also connects several farm vineyards across Limestone, Madison, and Lawrence counties.
